The administration of King David Community Center always strives to achieve the best ways to assist the elderly by incorporating the newest pedagogic findings in many different publications and books to its current program. It has already been proven that mental and emotional activities can have an effect on a persons’ overall health, longevity and mental balance.
It also has an effect on risks of getting mental illnesses such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease. It is also well known that people only use a certain percent of their brain’s potential at any given moment, and as age advances, this number begins to drop. The question arose as to what can be implemented on the KDCC programs to help promote good mental activity, and the answer was found relatively quickly.
Providing events such as trivia tournaments gives our elderly the opportunities that promote the necessary mental activity to keep their mind working, and developing their memory and use of logic. Trivia question cover vast subjects including literary works, arts, music, movies, etc. Each correct answer by every participant is recorded and tracked throughout the month, and prize is given to the winner.
